Amb. Chibuzo Okereke, a legislative expert and civil society activist, has been decorated with the prestigious Ikemba Aro award of the Arochukwu Kingdom of Abia State for his extensive community services and contributions to the development of democracy in Nigeria.
The prestigious honor was conferred by the Eze Aro the 9th of Arochukwu Ancient Kingdom and Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide, His Eminence, Eze Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, on Thursday in Abia.
The President General of Nzuko Arochukwu, Mazi (Sir) Nnadozie Udensi (Ugwu Aro), stated in an official letter that the recognition was based on past meritorious services to the Arochukwu Kingdom as an ambassador of cultural renaissance, peace, and community development.
“By this award, you are expected to continue to exhibit exemplary character, leadership, and support for the development of Arochukwu Kingdom both morally and financially,” he charged.
Significance of the Ikemba Aro Award
Reacting to the honor, Okereke expressed deep appreciation to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, the Eze Aro, well-wishers, and the Amangwu Development Union for their solidarity. He noted that bagging the Ikemba Aro award positions him as a prominent member of the Aro Kingdom, conferring a deeper responsibility to represent the community positively on a global scale.
“I feel great that the Arochukwu Kingdom and the crown recognized me as a young person… and for projecting the image of Aro globally with grace, dignity, and integrity,” Okereke said.
Furthermore, he encouraged individuals working hard behind the scenes never to give up. His speech also emphasized that societal impact—not awards—should remain the ultimate motivation for public service.
Advocacy and Leadership Legacy
Okereke is widely recognized for providing technical support to committees of the National Assembly. He leads legislative advocacy campaigns such as the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Act and champions youth empowerment through Project Hope Alive.
Surrounded by dignitaries including Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti and First Lady Mrs. Priscilla Otti during the ceremony, the new titleholder reaffirmed his dedication to grassroots development and youth mentorship.
